The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure’s Sport Development Unit have produced the new 2010 – 2012 Coach Education Programme. The programme offers 28 three hour workshops, covering key areas in sport including safeguarding children, equity in sport, long term athlete development, fundamentals of movement and first aid. Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure said “The Department recognises the importance of coach education and, through our Sports Development Unit, we will ensure that coaches on the Island have every opportunity to develop and reach their potential.” Sport Development Officer Gianni Epifani explained: “The Sports Development Unit has invested time and resources to ensure that local coaches have access to training that previously would have involved travelling off Island. The Unit has a very good relationship with the National Body for coaches, Sports Coach UK, and National Governing Bodies, which ensures that current and up to date coach education is available on Island.” The cost of attending a workshop is ?25.00. There is a 20% discount for Manx Sport and Recreation Coaches Association members. The next block of workshops take place during December; for details regarding these or for a copy of the new coach education booklet please contact the Sports Development Office on 688592 or email enquiries@msr.dtl.gov.im or visit www.gov.im/sport - Ends -
