This year’s Medis It’s A Knockout Challenge raised ?8,500 for The Children’s Centre and Crossroads Caring for Carers charities. The event held in July at Noble’s Park was the fifth and final year of the fun day organised by the pharmaceutical company. In total Medis has raised ?54,000 for Island charities since the first challenge in 2006.
Teams competed in a variety of events based on the 1970s It’s A Knockout BBC TV show. Medis managing director Stuart Colligon presented a cheque to the two organisations benefitting from this year’s challenge. He said:
“We are delighted to donate these funds to two very worthwhile charities which make such an important contribution to our community. This is the last year of our It’s A Knockout Challenge, but we are already thinking of more exciting events to organise in the future which will also benefit Isle of Man charities.”
Each charity received ?4,250 and thanked Medis for its kind donation. Crossroads Caring for Carers will use the funds to go towards the cost of respite care for carers and towards its Building Bridges scheme which provides social activities for young people with learning disabilities.
The Children’s Centre said that the funds would go towards the centre’s Mobex outdoor education service which utilises adventurous and creative activities to challenge and motivate young people to make changes in their own lives.
More than 200 competitors representing 22 teams took part in this year’s Challenge. A team from Itex (Isle of Man) Ltd retained the title they won in 2009.
