The MS Society in the Isle of Man is launching a new regular get-together for anyone with Multiple Sclerosis who lives in the South of the Island.
Debs Fleming (the Society's support officer) will be at the Cherry Orchard in Port Erin from 1.30pm on Monday 27 September to welcome anyone with MS, their families and friends for what the Society hopes will be a monthly social event giving anyone with MS, or knows someone who has, the opportunity to talk and meet old friends or even make new ones.
This follows on from the monthly coffee mornings in Ramsey which are regularly attended by more than ten people who enjoy the opportunity not just to talk about MS, but also to discuss such random topics as last night's television and the state of the current roadworks.
Branch committee member Suzy Holland, who attends the Ramsey meetings, commented:
"When we started the coffee mornings in Ramsey we had no idea how many would turn up, but over the past six months we have come to realise that this type of informal event was exactly what people wanted. Although MS affects people in different ways, a physical disability can make you almost housebound and dependent on your family or partner. We've seen that not only do those with MS enjoy the social side of the morning, it also gives their carers a break, if they want it. The obvious next step was to extend this idea to the South - and the Cherry Orchard, with its disabled-friendly facilities and ample parking, was the ideal venue. When Debs stepped in to 'host' it, we had no excuse not to name the date and time - Monday 27 September from 1.30pm - you don't have to be a member of the MS Society to take advantage of this and if you're concerned about not knowing anyone then call Debs on 452207 and she'll look out for you".
