MHK Comes Home to Back to Church Sunday

by isleofman.com 20th September 2010
One of our well known MHKs, Geoff Corkish, is putting his support behind local Churches as they offer invitations for people to ‘Come Home’ to church this coming Sunday. This coming Sunday 26th September is ‘Back to Church Sunday’. Many churches around the Island are taking part in this annual event which is running nationally and internationally. So far over 4000 churches are taking part across all denominations and over1 million invitations have been offered to families and friends to ‘Come and see’. Last year throughout the British Isles over 83,000 people responded to the invitation and some 15% of these people came home and have remained within the Church. Canon Malcolm Convery, Curate at Kirk Michael and St John’s who has organised this years event on the Island, says: “Many people have drifted away from the Church for various reasons. Perhaps they have not had contact since Sunday School but they have longed to go back. However, that first step back can be difficult. Back to Church Sunday can help people to reconnect with their roots or even explore what the Church is about for the first time. Such a move can be like ‘Coming Home’. Across the Island churches our waiting to welcome the 'Homecomers'".
