A key part of the Constabulary’s overall strategy of improving confidence, satisfaction and reassurance is increasing the effectiveness of our engagement with the community. The Island is a continually evolving community and it is important that we recognise issues affecting all the diverse communities or minority groupings across the Island. To this end the Constabulary are holding an open consultation forum at 7 pm on Thursday 23rd September, 2010 at Ballacloan School, Demesne Road, Douglas.
In the past year the Constabulary have built a team of officers to focus on building engagement with diverse groups. The team operates in three groups covering the strands of Race, Nationality and Faith; LGBT; Disability. Officers from the team will be discussing their work to date and engaging in dialogue with attendees to clarify issues and help drive the work forward.
This work is being championed by Deputy Chief Constable Gary Roberts and will be driven by Chief Inspector Simon Lowe. Both officers will be in attendance at the event on the 23rd
DCC Roberts said “Our intention is still to build a strategy and working, practical partnership that is real and acknowledges the diversity of the Island in 2010. We have been working hard to improve our knowledge of issues affecting members of diverse groups and to build and improve relationships. It is the right time to discuss this work and seek more input and we really do need people from across the Island’s communities to come and speak to us.”
The Constabulary would be grateful if anyone wishing to attend the forum notify their interest to Lynn LeGuillou on 631227 or at lynn.leguillou@gov.im in order that we have an idea of numbers attending.
