ICM Space Representative Takes To The Skies

by isleofman.com 9th September 2010
ICM Space Representative takes to the skies in run up to Google Lunar X Prize Team Summit Sarah Fry, senior representative for Isle of Man-based ICM Space, has jetted off to the World Satellite Business Conference, which is taking place in Paris between 6th and 10th September 2010. The Conference brings together senior representatives from across the globe, providing a perfect platform for networking and finding out more about the current and future prospects for the industry. Sarah’s attendance comes only one month before World Space Week and the prestigious Google Lunar X Prize Summit being hosted in the Isle of Man on 4 and 5 October 2010. “These prestigious events provide huge exposure not only for ICM Space but also the Isle of Man as a premier Space Commerce jurisdiction,” said Sarah. The Google Lunar X Prize website refers to this prize as ‘a $30 million international competition to safely land a robot on the surface of the Moon, travel 500 meters over the lunar surface, and send images and data back to the Earth’(Ref:http://www.googlelunarxprize.org/ ). The hosting of the summit on the Isle of Man is indicative of the international space community’s recognition of the Island as one of the leading jurisdictions in Space Commerce which has recently been given a boost with the Island being named fifth in a list of nations most likely to make a moon landing between 2018 and 2020 by Ascend. This growing recognition is down to a combination of factors, not least of which the establishment of a dedicated Isle of Man Space Commerce Government department. ICM Space was launched in 2009 in response to the Isle of Man Government space initiative to enable space and satellite companies take advantage of the Isle of Man’s legal framework and financial infrastructure. As well as establishing company structures though sister company ICM Limited, ICM Space can organise the registration of satellites with UK and Isle of Man Space Registries, assist in securing orbital filing slots in conjunction with ManSat and the ITU and source finance for satellite development and launch.
