Record Number of Entries For Douglas In Bloom

by isleofman.com 9th September 2010
Douglas in Bloom 2010 has attracted a record number of entries - 75 - and revealed exceptionally high horticultural standards. Judges from Douglas Borough Council’s parks section have made their decisions which will be announced at a prize presentation to be hosted by the Mayor, Councillor Ritchie McNicholl, at Douglas Town Hall in the near future. There was a broad spread of entries from across the Borough with gardens of private householders and Council tenants forming around two-thirds of the total number of submissions, most of which were imaginative interpretations of traditional summer bedding schemes. Leisure services committee chairman Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ‘The response to our reinvigorated Douglas in Bloom campaign – offering an increased number of categories and more prizes - has been extremely encouraging. I am pleased that so many entries were submitted this year and I firmly believe this reflects a renewed sense of civic pride and, hopefully, augurs well for the capital’s prospects in Britain in Bloom, the results of which will be announced on September 29.’ Ends
