Guy Wolstencroft, Manager of Manx Hidden Hearing in Onchan, is taking part in Eurostar’s Tri-City-Athlon as part of Team Great Britain. To support him in this event he is asking people to sponsor him, but instead of money he is asking for a pint of blood.
Guy previously ran the Windermere Marathon, and his ‘Care to share a pint?’ sponsorship campaign raised a staggering 1,698 pints of blood. This made up a massive 6% of the UK’s annual total of blood donations. Guy is hoping to repeat that success with this new challenge.
The Tri-City-Athlon is part of the build up to the 2012 Olympics, and is the first ever triathlon to be spread across three countries in a single day. It features a 1,500m swim in the Basin de la Villette in Paris, a 40,000m cycle on the streets of Brussels around the King Baudouin I Stadium and a 10,000m run through Regents Park in London. Guy hopes to get 1,030 pints of blood from sponsorship, which is one pint for every fifty metres he travels.
Guy is one of just twenty competitors who made it into the GBR team from over 1,100 applications from across the country. He commented: “This is a wonderful opportunity to represent Great Britain on such a unique and pioneering event as a tri-city-athlon. Everyone can get involved and it won’t cost them a penny, so please, please consider donating. It’s just a few minutes of your time and a small scratch, and it can change lives.”
“You provide the blood, I will provide the sweat, and between us we can make it so there are fewer tears in the world.”
