Manx Grand Prix Results influence Rankings The ‘most sporting races of the year’ the Manx Grand Prix, round 20 of the Duke Road Race Rankings with all 12 races being run in perfect conditions, provided valuable points for 120 riders and especially the race winners of which there were 11. Blackpool’s Roy Richardson achieving a Classic Race double in the MMCC Junior and Senior races. Manxmen Tim Venables and Jonny Heginbotham took the Newcomers’ Races, whilst Peter Wakefield lifted the Classic Lightweight trophy. Michael Dunlop and Chris Palmer claimed the laurel wreaths in the Post Classic Senior and Junior races. Chris McGahan became the first winner of the Classic Formula race. The Manx Grand Prix races saw four worthy names added to the illustrious list of previous winners since 1923. Simon Fulton took the Senior; Michael Sweeney the Junior; Neil Kent the Lightweight and Philip McGurk the Ultra Lightweight. Whilst there are no changes to the top ten in the Rankings, Michael Dunlop’s win in the Post Classic Senior Race has allowed him to close the gap between himself and his elder brother William. Roy Richardson’s double victory advances him 10 places, as he moves from 26th to 16th position. Newcomers B winner Shaun Anderson is a new entry slotting into 47th place, whilst Junior Manx Grand Prix victor Michael Sweeney slots into 48th spot behind his fellow countryman. However, Si Fulton, winner of the Senior Manx Grand Prix and third in the Junior Manx Grand Prix is the highest climber moving from 150th position to 60th an upwards step of 90 places! The Country Crest Killalane National Road Races, Round 21 of the series takes place on Saturday 11th September and brings the road racing season to a close in the Island of Ireland. The penultimate round of the 2010 Duke Road Race Rankings Series takes place on the 18th & 19th September at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough, where the 60th anniversary Steve Henshaw International Gold Cup will be held. There is then a break until November for the final round at the Macau Grand Prix. Full details can be found at: www.dukevideo.com/DukeRoadRaceRankings Ends
