by isleofman.com 4th October 2010
On the afternoon of Saturday 2nd October 2010, a protest march in took place in Douglas town centre in relation to dissatisfaction within the Isle of Man Constabulary complaints procedure. Approximately 30 people took part in the protest, which took a route through the main shopping areas and along the Promenade. The protest passed peacefully without incident. Inspector Phil SHIMMIN of the Douglas Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “The purpose of the policing operation was to facilitate a peaceful protest whilst minimising any disruption to the community within the town centre. Positive liaison with the organiser of the protest prior to the event helped to ensure that the protest passed smoothly and without any arrests being necessary. It is important to recognise that the right to freedom of expression within lawful parameters is respected by the Isle of Man Constabulary, no matter what the subject of the protest.” ENDS
