IOM Government Clarifies Position Regarding Travel To Romania

by isleofman.com 5th October 2010
The Isle of Man Government has been working on behalf of its residents to clarify the position regarding travel to Romania. Following discussions with the UK’s Identity and Passport Service and the Consular Department of the Embassy of Romania, the External Relations Division of the Chief Secretary’s Office has received confirmation that holders of British Islands passports issued in the Isle of Man are free to travel to Romania without the need for a visa. Clarification was sought by the Isle of Man Government after an Island resident was recently refused entry into Romania. Senior External Relations Manager Richard Carter said: ‘A difficulty arose as a result of a misunderstanding among borders authority officers at an airport in Romania. The matter has now been resolved and I would like to reassure local residents that passports issued in the Isle of Man continue to be a secure document for travel throughout the world.’ A spokesman at the UK Home Office added: ‘UK citizens, and those from Crown Dependencies such as the Isle of Man, are entitled to visa-free travel to Romania.’ Ends
