Isle of Man Archery Record in Delhi

by isleofman.com 6th October 2010
In the sunny climes of Delhi, Archery Team Isle of Man was in the frame with the real action starting on Monday with a Fita 720 qualifying round. This was an amazing day for the youngest member Aalin George, shooting a score of 670. This was to be a new Isle of Man record and qualified her in 20th for the next round on Tuesday. The head to head round, with the other member of the women’s compound team Sarah Rigby, scored 658 to qualify for 28th and in the Gents compound competition was Adrian Bruce. This side was very competitive, with only 20 points between 30 archers. Adrian had a problem with his bow but overcame the ordeal to score 634 and for a qualifying 43rd. The head to head round is shot over 70m with six arrows at a time. The highest scorer gets two points or if it’s a draw each archer get one point. Each first archer to four points goes through to the next round and the process starts again. First up was Aalin shooting against Cassie McCall from Australia. This battle was close with Aalin only one point down at the first, and a draw the next but McCall just had the upper hand in the end to knock Aalin out. Next up was Sarah, shooting against Tracey McGowan, Scotland’s No1. Sarah put up a great fight with McGowan but lost out by two points in each end. Next were the men’s Comp and Adrian sets off with very confident shooting against Kyle Dods, the Scottish No1. First end sees Dods edge it, only by the judge’s magnifying glass, with the decision going against Adrian by less than a millimetre. The next end saw Adrian drop an arrow into the red scoring zone, which was all Dods needed to steal the place in the next round off Adrian. Team manager Peter Mumford said “The team are all extremely disappointed but they have all performed brilliantly and with an Isle of Man Record what more could they do?”
