Stephen Morris has been appointed Captive Finance Accountant at Thomas Miller Risk Management (Isle of Man) Limited. This newly created role includes new business development, specific captive related project work and overseeing the accounting aspects of certain captives managed by Thomas Miller. As part of a long-term structured succession plan Stephen will ultimately be responsible for a specific portfolio of captive accounts. Thomas Miller Risk Management Director Ross Dennett, who leads a team of six in the company’s captive insurance business, said:
“With his commercial background and experience, Stephen is a valuable addition to the captive team and we see him becoming an increasingly important part of our business in the years ahead. His appointment forms part of the long term growth and contingency strategy for Thomas Miller Risk Management, ensuring that every part of the client experience continues to be met by professional, experienced staff.”
Thomas Miller Risk Management offers several captive insurance solutions for both single parent captives and associations and is currently forming a PCC (Protected Cell Company). Stephen believes that due to the tough economic climate many businesses are taking a renewed interest in setting up captives to provide a more cost effective solution to their insurance needs. He added:
“At Thomas Miller Risk Management captive insurance is our core competence, we are not a broker offering a ‘bolt on’ management service. This gives us a true independence which few other companies in this sector can offer. Of course, our clients have the reassurance of knowing that we are backed by the Thomas Miller Group of Companies which was founded in 1885 and now manages insurance entities that have total premiums of ?350 million and assets in excess of ?3billion.”
Stephen is a qualified ACA Accountant and has 10 years experience in the financial services sector. Initially this was with a London-based consultancy specialising in wholesale and retail banking. He moved to the Isle of Man in 2004 and spent five years with a Douglas-based accountancy firm.
Before embarking on a career in the finance sector Stephen studied at Cardiff University where he successfully completed a PhD and Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Stephen Morris is based at Thomas Millar Risk Management’s offices in Mount Havelock, Douglas, and can be contacted by phoning 645229 or emailing stephen.morris@thomasmiller.com
