by isleofman.com 15th October 2010
Peter Cartmel was announced the winner of the inaugural ‘Home Run’ Digital Photography Competition at a recent presentation night. Home Strategic set up the photography competition after being approached by Ray Davies of the Isle of Man Photographic Society to help encourage and promote the great photographic talent on the Isle of Man. The competition was open to the public and received strong support from the Island’s Photographic societies with 42 entrants showcasing their work. The ‘Home run’ competition was a knockout style event with successful entrants progressing to the next round. Each round had a new theme to test photographer’s abilities across a broad range of skills. The themes included places, animals, people and luxury items. The final was an open round between Peter Cartmel and Mark Stringer. Both photographers entered three photographs of their choice before previous entrants and staff at Home Strategic cast their votes for their number one entry. Peter’s photograph ‘Abandoned’, won him the title of ‘Home Run Digital Photographer of 2010’ for which he received a cheque for ?150. Peter was also presented with a large format canvas print of his winning photograph at the presentation, which was held at the Home Strategic offices in Tromode. On the presentation night a ‘Designer’s Choice’ award was also presented to Patricia Tutt for her photograph ‘Kipper Shed Queue’. This award was voted for by the creative team at Home Strategic.
