Bikers’ Tribute To Sir Norman Raises Funds For Age Concern Isle of Man

by isleofman.com 18th October 2010
A group of TT fans in the UK with a long-standing affection for the late Sir Norman Wisdom have raised ?900 in his memory and donated the money to Age Concern Isle of Man. Chairman of the charity’s board of trustees Malcolm Kelly explained: ‘Sir Norman was a former vice-present of Age Concern Isle of Man - a very keen supporter of the charity who attended many of our events. My wife Jan and I have a friend, Ray Wells, who is a member of a group of bikers in England known as the Ringwood Classic Riders. Ray used to stay with us over the TT fortnight and met Sir Norman at numerous Age Concern events. And it’s this connection that has inspired Ray and his friends to raise this generous sum of money as a tribute to his memory and the charity he supported so enthusiastically.’ The passing of Sir Norman prompted Mr Kelly to rediscover a number of photographs taken of the late comic star during the period 1998 to 2000, including one when the legendary entertainer ‘borrowed’ the cap of a visiting Dutch naval attache, another at a fundraising event at Harold Towers with Isle of Man College hospitality staff and one showing him being carried along by the Ringwood Classic Riders. www.ageconcerniom.com Ends
