Island Welcomes Home Sporting Stars

by isleofman.com 19th October 2010
The Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Team returned home on Friday (15th October) to a warm welcome from friends and family. The Manx team equalled its best ever performance at the Games (Melbourne 2006) by securing two medals, with Mark Christian taking home the bronze medal in the 40km Points Cycling Race and Tim Kneale winning bronze in the Double Trap shooting event. As well as the fantastic performances from Mark and Tim, there have been Island records broken and plenty of personal bests, making the 2010 Commonwealth Games a great success for the athletes and competitors from the Isle of Man. Hon. David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure said, “The whole Manx Team have been excellent ambassadors, representing the Isle of Man on the world sporting stage. We are all very proud of their achievements. Welcome home and congratulations!” The Minister added, “We now look forward to when the Commonwealth Youth Games comes to the Isle of Man in September 2011. Plans are progressing well and I know the whole Island will get behind this great event.
