Frazer Hines Launches Anniversary Tour On The Isle of Man

by isleofman.com 19th October 2010
From early Hammer horror movies as a child star in 'X The Unknown', working with Patrick Troughton as the longest serving 'Doctor Who' companion - the highlander Jamie McCrimmon, and onto his years as a household name as Joe Sugden in 'Emmerdale Farm', Frazer Hines has been one of the most enduring, and best loved, British actors in TV and film for half a century. For the last couple of years Frazer has been presenting, to great acclaim, his successful one man show on cruise ships travelling everywhere from the Mediterranean to Norway. Now, to celebrate 50 years in show business, he's decided to take the show on tour around the UK, and is launching it on the Isle of Man, at the Erin Arts Centre on 30th October. In the show Frazer shares many entertaining and heartwarming stories of the highs and lows of his life and career, his years in film and television, prolific stage tours, his sporting life as a jockey, and cricketer with the Lord Taverners, also his recent victory after an 11 year battle with cancer. The talk is illustrated with clips from his screen career including, not only 'Doctor Who' and 'Emmerdale Farm', but also his many cinema roles, working alongside Michael Caine, Omar Sharif and Michael York, plus his earliest performance with Charlie Chaplin. In the second half, Frazer will invite questions from the audience and there also will be an opportunity to obtain his autobiography 'Hines Sight', recently published to rave reviews. Frazer is no stranger to the Isle of Man and is really looking forward to his visit. “The first time I was on the island I came in especially in a helicopter from Blackpool to do a televised charity event with Nina Carter. After that I came for an event hosted by the local 'Doctor Who' society, and this also gave me the chance to have a tour of the island, and to meet many of its lovely, and friendly people. It was raining during that last visit, so I'm hoping for some sunshine, and to have another ride in a horse-drawn tram! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again and hoping for a full house at the Erin Arts Centre!” It promises to be an unmissable 'one night stand' giving entertainment and laughs as Frazer looks back over his life and times.
