IOM Squash - Over 40'Competition

Dave Karren Over 40’s – Day 1 Round 1 Mount Murray played host to this years Dave Karren Over 40’s competition with Shane Martin providing addition refreshments in the form of a supply of Green Man Spring Water. Matches were played as the best of five games with each game won by the first to reach eleven points using the American point-a-rally format. The draw was based on SRA ranking position with two rounds scheduled for day 1. The competition is run on the Swiss system where each player plays in every round to decide the eventual finishing order. The final round is to be played on Friday 22nd October. The first round went mainly with seeding. The exceptions being Shane Martin’s win over John Watterson, after John had taken the first game, and Phil Shaw, seeded No.9 who beat No.8 seed Vicky Watterson. Results: Lyndon Cheetham bt Derek Tootill (3-0); Douglas Jacobsson bt Helen Cave (3-0); Dave Griffiths bt Peter Ginty (3-0); Les Callow bt Brian Cowley (3-1); John Watterson lost to Shane Martin (1-3); Mark Henson bt Stuart Highy (3-1); Vicky Watterson lost to Phil Shaw (0-3). Round 2 Match of the round was between Ian Kelly and Mark Henson. Ian saved two match balls in the fourth game to take the tie to a deciding game, which Mark won. Vicky Watterson lost the first two games against Derek Tootill, both on the deciding point, before moving up a gear to win convincingly. Results: Lyndon Cheetham by Phil Shaw (3-0); Ian Kelly lost to Mark Henson (2-3); Douglas Jacobsson bt Shane Martin (3-0); Dave Griffiths bt Les Callow (3-0); Vicky Watterson bt Derek Tootill (3-2); John Watterson bt Helen Cave (3-0); Brian Cowley lost to Peter Ginty (0-3) Ends
