The LinC programme, organised by The Children's Centre and funded by Friends Provident International, this year added a project for children to its existing schemes for adults. At a ceremony held at the Bonwick Family Centre in Ramsey, participants in junior and adult schemes to teach community leadership skills received certificates to mark their achievements. LinC certificates were presented by Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK and Jonathan Hall, general manager and director at Friends Provident International.
Jonathan Hall said that all of the recipients were deserving of their awards in recognition of their hard work and commitment to contributing to their community. He said:
"Friends Provident International is proud to continue its support for the LinC programme. This year we have seen a new project for young people and the Junior LinC programme promises to produce some younger community leaders who are already having their own ideas of how to improve the area where they live."
The first Junior LinC programme was held during the school summer holidays and was based in Jurby. After creating a study of facilities in and around Jurby the team decided that there was a need to renovate the BMX track which was once popular with children but has now become overgrown and unusable. They are now in the process of implementing their plans.
The LinC programme began in 2008 and graduates may go on to join existing community groups or set up new ones. For more information about LinC go to http://www.thechildrenscentre.org.im or contact the programme coordinator Janet Bailey on 676076 or by emailing janetbailey@thechildrenscentre.org.im.
