Island’s Churches Acknowledge Tynwald’s Commitment To An Inclusive Society

by isleofman.com 29th October 2010
The contribution Tynwald continues to make in its work to advance the cause of inclusivity in the Isle of Man has been recognised by the Island’s churches. A framed copy of a Covenant for Mission, the document signed by the churches of the Island at a ceremony on Sunday June 20 to publicly demonstrate their commitment to work together, was presented to the President of Tynwald, Noel Cringle OBE MLC, by The Very Reverend Canon Brendan Alger on Wednesday October 20 in the Millennium Room of Legislative Buildings. In making the presentation, Canon Alger, who was joined by representatives from other churches in the Island and who is soon to retire from his ministry at The Church of St Mary of the Isle, said the Covenant for Mission, in the spirit of Freedom to Flourish, reflected a desire of the Island’s churches to move forward, recognise differences and work collaboratively in mission. He added that the churches’ recognition of diversity was mirrored by that of Tynwald which similarly acknowledged the importance of shared awareness and mutual respect. Thanking Canon Alger Mr President reaffirmed the commitment of Tynwald to carry forward and uphold the values set out in the Covenant for Mission as they provided the foundations for creating an inclusive society through common understanding.
