The Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trustees have generously provided funding for the purchase of 35 new syringe drivers which will be used to deliver pain relief to terminally ill patients in both Noble’s Hospital, Hospice Isle of Man and the wider community. The syringe drivers are designed to deliver small continuous amounts of medication, helping to prevent patient discomfort and offer an improvement over equipment currently in use. The syringe drivers are a safe and cost effective way to deliver a continuous infusion of pain relief to patients who are no longer able to take oral medication. The new equipment has added features which improve both ease of administration and patient safety. This particular make of driver, the McKinley T34 Syringe Driver Pumps is also used more widely in the UK, so those patients who require transfer to and from the UK for treatment can do so with greater convenience. The Chair of Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust, Mr Laurence Keenan, said, “On behalf of the Trustees it is a real pleasure and privilege to be able to assist with the funding of this initiative. The Trustees endeavour to assist, where possible, both the National Health Service and “Healthcare Charities” to improve the delivery of quality patient care by providing funds to do so. The Trust is only able to provide this assistance by the generosity of the Manx public who kindly give through bequests and donations.” The Minister for Health, Mr David Anderson MHK, took the opportunity to thank the Trustees and added, “We are grateful for the generosity of the Trustees.
