Isle of Man Thrives At EiG Conference 2010

by isleofman.com 5th November 2010
As part of the Isle of Man Government’s strategy to expand its fast-growing e-Gaming sector, the Isle of Man showcased its approach and the benefits of being licensed on the Island at the 9th annual European iGaming Expo (EiG 19th -21th October) held over three days in Copenhagen. EiG is a leading industry event for decision makers in the online gaming industry. The exhibition offered a prime opportunity for Government and business representatives to communicate the Island’s strong proposition to the e-Gaming sector. During the three days of the conference many valuable discussions were had and over 60 new contacts were made with companies interested in relocating or investing in the Island. Garth Kimber, Head of e-Gaming Development, Isle of Man Government’s Department of Economic Development commented: “The Isle of Man’s presence at EiG is key to our annual marketing effort and in positioning the Island as a premier jurisdiction. Events such as these provide us with the opportunity to articulate the benefits of relocating to the Isle of Man face to face, and prove to be an invaluable tool in winning new business. The mood is sombre in Europe due to the fast changing regulatory landscape and this was reflected at the conference. Despite this we were able to have serious conversations with a significant number of businesses who are interested in the Island and what we have to offer.” The Island forms a centre of excellence with a framework of support services available, which were well represented on the EIG stand by 13 private sector companies. Visitors were therefore able to discuss legal, financial, payments, data hosting, software, consultancy and corporate services as well as talking to Government delegates representing the Development Agency and the Gambling Supervision Commission. Alex Downie MLC, Department of Economic Development member representing e-Gaming, Isle of Man Government added: “The growth of the sector, particularly over the last 12 months is testament to the Island’s ongoing commitment to supporting a quality e-Gaming sector which adheres to the highest regulations. The Isle of Man’s presence at EiG is important not only with regard to demonstrating our diverse economy, but also the Island’s international standing as a flexible and responsible jurisdiction.” -Ends-
