Scottish Widows’ Credit for Card Introduction

by isleofman.com 8th November 2010
The Henry Bloom Noble Library is issuing new membership cards, thanks to sponsorship from Scottish Widows. The company, which is a keen supporter of the library and has sponsored the Summer Reading Challenge for four years, has funded the cost of new laminated cards that come with a key fob card and have been produced in three versions: for adults, boys and girls. Scottish Widows’ personal portfolio and investments manager Juan Clarke said: ‘We have been working with the Henry Bloom Noble Library for some years, until recently as CMI and, since earlier this year, under the Scottish Widows’ brand name. Our support of the library is a key component in our community involvement, which focuses largely on literacy through our Book Buddies volunteer reading scheme and our annual sponsorship of the Summer Reading Challenge. We are pleased to have sponsored the new membership cards and look forward to our continued association with the Henry Bloom Noble Library.’ Borough librarian Jan Macartney said: ‘We are extremely grateful to Juan and his colleagues at Scottish Widows for their generous support and sponsorship. These attractive new cards are high quality, practical and durable and have been well received by all our customers. New members will automatically be issued with one of the new cards while all existing members holding old-style cards will have them replaced the next time they visit the library.’ Helping launch the new cards were Jon Russell-Dunn and three of his sons, Patrik, eight, Calvin, six and Morgan, four, from Glen Park in Douglas. Mr Russell-Dunn said: ‘We’re all keen readers in our family and these new membership cards are brilliant, especially the key fob card which is really handy and makes such a difference as it’s with my car keys so it means I’ve always got my card on me.’ Douglas Borough Council’s leisure services committee chairman Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ‘The partnership with Scottish Widows has helped the Council develop a broader range of activities for adults and children at the Henry Bloom Noble Library and promote the library to a wider audience. We are therefore most grateful to Scottish Widows for their continued support.’ Ends
