The Department of Social Care’s Memory Clinic, which is part of the Older Persons Mental Health Service, has received accreditation under the UK’s Memory Services National Accreditation Programme (MSNAP) in recognition of the high standards of care provided. The Memory Clinic provides specialist assessment, treatment and support to those members of our community with memory problems. There is also strong emphasis on the detection and support of people with dementia.
Minister for Social Care Hon Martyn Quayle MHK thanked all the staff for their hard work and commitment in achieving the accreditation and commented: “My Department provides care and support to thousands of people in our community. Individuals should have freedom to flourish despite their age or disability and we are committed to ensure that people can cope with any impairment so they are able to remain as independent as possible.”
Political Member for Social Services Mr Bill Malarkey MHK who presented the certificate on 8th November 2010 commented: “An increasing number of people in our community experience memory loss, so finding ways of dealing with this condition and supporting those service users is very important. This external recognition provides a positive endorsement of the services provided locally. I also thank all the staff involved in achieving this award.”
