Planning Your Finances

by isleofman.com 9th November 2010
Over one hundred people have already signed up for the financial planning talk at the Claremont Hotel on November 15th. The free talk is being hosted by TLC Business Solutions and Thornton Associates with the aim of giving everyday people a helping hand when it comes to the crucial area of planning their finances. The talk will be lead by Sue Gee, Managing Director of TLC Business Solutions, a local training company, and Sharon Sutton, Managing Director of Thornton Associates, the only firm of Chartered Financial Planners on the Island. Sue and Sharon both firmly believe that financial planning is something that everyone should be concerned with no matter what their financial circumstances, and they are keen to help empower people to take control of their own assets. The talk will cover areas such as budgeting, protection against death, accident or illness and saving for the short and longer term, along with other important areas that should be part of everyone’s financial planning. Sue commented on the talk: “It is a myth that only affluent, high net worth or rich people need to plan financially for the future. In fact it is probably more important for those of us who have less disposal income; we need to make this money work harder. I am really glad that we have already had so many people sign up for the talk, but I would encourage anyone who hasn’t done so yet to go for it. There is nothing to lose, and a lot to gain.” Sharon also commented: “It is estimated that up to 70% of the population do not seek financial advice. Of those that do, no two people ever have exactly the same circumstances. However, what we all have in common is that we all face greater challenges in such a tough and uncertain economic climate and a responsibility to live up to them for the sakes of our families and our community. This talk can help to set you on the right path, so we’re delighted to see so many people taking the initiative and signing up.” The one hour talk, which is supported by the Department of Economic Development, is free of charge and open to everyone over the age of 18. It will run from 5.45-6.45pm on Monday 15th November. Places are still available, and can be booked by calling Janet at TLC on 664789. Ends
