It is highly likely that there will be standing water in some areas. Members of the public are ask to take this message seriously and should consider the following:
O Do not travel or make your journey if unless it is absolutely necessary.
O Drivers of high sided vehicles should take additional care and not travel unless necessary.
O Fords and Rivers may flood.
O There is a likelihood of fallen trees on our roads particularly in the morning.
O Drivers are asked to drive carefully and take note of the conditions.
O Ensure that your property is secure and that any items that are free to blow away are tied down.
O Be alert to hazards when driving.
O In wet weather it can take twice as long to stop your vehicle so slow down.
It is expected that the weather conditions will last into tomorrow, Friday, so please be aware that there may be disruption. The Isle of Man Constabulary will be working in partnership with the DOI to ensure that arterial routes are kept free.
Please only call 999 in a genuine emergency and call 631212 in the event of any other issue.
Inspector Britton continued “I would like to reassure the public that we will attend all emergencies however our vehicles could also be hindered by the adverse weather conditions and it may take us a little longer to get you. We are going to have to prioritise our work and react accordingly. I would also ask that you seriously consider the need to contact the emergency services before dialling 999, ensuring that we can focus on the people who need us the most.”
