Police are currently investigating two reported incidents of disturbance to the seals in the area of Kitterland (located between the Sound and the Calf of Man). This disturbance has been in the form of persons accessing Kitterland on foot from boats. Specific incidents relate to activity during the daytime on Saturday 16th October and Saturday 6th November. On both occasions, it is believed that a number of persons witnessed the activity from the area of the Sound. Constable Ian Scott stated “Further to recent media releases on the issues concerning seals, this serves as a timely reminder to all that seals are protected under The Wildlife Act 1990 from intentional or reckless disturbance and as such these animals should not be approached. At this time of year this is especially relevant as seals are giving birth to pups and there may well be dependent young within any seal colony.
