Play An Active Role In Consumer Issues In The Island

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified person to play an active role in consumer issues in the Isle of Man. The Council of Ministers is seeking to appoint a lay member to the Office of Fair Trading, a Statutory Board that provides legislation, advice and support to protect individuals and businesses from unfair trading practices. The successful candidate will serve a five-year term alongside two Members of Tynwald and two other lay members. Applicants for the vacant post should have experience of consumer issues, and while formal qualifications are not essential a professional qualification – for example, in law or accountancy – would be advantageous. It is also desirable that candidates possess the following: • Experience of operating within a Board structure, either in business or the public sector • An understanding of strategic planning, resource and risk management • The ability to analyse and review complex issues • A good understanding of Government and business and the factors that influence them • A high level of interpersonal skills • Basic IT capability to receive and respond to electronic transmissions • The highest standards of integrity and honesty • An ability to commit two to three days a month The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Thursday, December 2, and an information pack is available to download at http://www.gov.im/lib/docs/cso/oftinformationpacknovember2010.pdf Alternatively, for further details contact the Chief Secretary’s Office, Government Office, Bucks Road, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM1 3PG, telephone 01624 685711, or email ann.easthope@gov.im Ends
