by isleofman.com 17th November 2010
With a career spanning five decades and worldwide album sales in excess of 250 million, Elton John is undoubtedly one of the biggest entertainers in the World. Today it has been announced that he will bring his solo show to the Isle of Man for one special night next summer. The concert will take place in the Valhalla Tent in the setting of Nobles Park, Douglas. The reserved seated and standing concert will give thousands of lucky Manx the opportunity to see Elton perform live for the first time on the Island Tickets for this show will go on sale Thursday 18 November at 9am Elton John said: “Every year I play concerts all over the world, often in the most extraordinary and exotic places. I never tire of playing, and coming home to play in England in the summer is always a special joy. I have never played in The Isle of Man before, so I’m looking forward to the concert on June 16. The summer audiences always come prepared to enjoy themselves, so be ready to be up on your feet, dancing and singing. Those fans who have been with me since the early days might remember that I recorded a song called Val-hala in 1969 on the Empty Sky album – so that must be a good omen. See you in June!” Last month Elton released a new album in collaboration with musical legend Leon Russell, which entered the charts around the World in the top ten. A critically acclaimed performance at the BBC’s Electric Proms followed, featuring special guests Leon Russell, Plan B and Rumer. Later this month Elton will undertake a very special performance at the Union Chapel, London, for Absolute Radio, who will broadcast the performance on Christmas day. The date at Douglas’ Nobles Park will be one of just a hand full of dates that Elton will perform in the UK next summer, and his only solo performance. The Rocketman will also undertake dates with his band in Cardiff, Glasgow, Shrewsbury, Northampton and Brighton. His show will include over two hours of hits from an incredible back catalogue, including such classics as ‘Benny & The Jets’ , ‘Crocodile Rock’ ‘Your Song’ as well as tracks from his new album, which was released last month to great reviews: Heat Magazine ‘Sir Elton goes back to his roots for this astonishing collaboration with veteran rootsy singer/songwriter Russell… Expect Grammys galore’. Daily Mirror ‘Sir Elton is back with a bang, the Union is widely tipped for a grammy… its frankly genius…’ Daily Mail ‘Elton is back to his elegant best’.
