Have A Merry Time and Join The Christmas Shopping Express

by isleofman.com 18th November 2010
Let the train take the strain this Christmas! Avoid traffic and parking problems and ride the steam train to Douglas for all your Christmas shopping needs. The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure’s Steam Railway is running shopping trains for the festive season. Passengers can start their day of Christmas shopping by boarding the steam train at their nearest station. They can then relax travelling through the picturesque countryside, while avoiding busy traffic and the hassle and cost of parking. To ease the strain of shopping, train tickets also include free use of all buses within the lower Douglas area for the day of travel, so whilst shoppers in their cars are still looking for a suitable space to park, passengers can either stroll the short distance from the station to Strand Street, or hop onto the next suitable bus to take them to the stops near the shops, such as Victoria Road or Loch Promenade. Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure commented: “Isle of Man Railways really are pulling out all the stops this Christmas, providing Santa Trains to Castletown for Santa’s Grotto and the Christmas Market, and now offering the option to leave your car at home and ride the Christmas Shopping Express. With Christmas shopping done for another year, a journey home on the steam railway is a great way to end the day.” Christmas shopping trains depart from Port Erin and Castletown and will be stopping at all the main stops along the line, as it would for a regular, timetabled service. The train will stop at request stops if a clear signal is given to the driver. The Christmas Shopping Express will operate on the following dates: • Saturday 4th, 11th and 18th December • Sunday 5th and 12th December Trains depart Port Erin at: • 09:30 and 13:30 Trains depart Castletown at: • 09:52, 10:52, 11:52, 13:52 and 14:52 Returning trains depart Douglas at: • 11:50, 13:50, 14:50, 15:50, 16:50, 17:35 and 18:35 Tickets can be obtained on the day from the main stations, standard fares apply, no concessions.
