by isleofman.com 22nd November 2010
On Sunday 28th November the House of Manannan in Peel will host a day of seasonal festivities including traditional Christmas craft stalls, magic lantern show, craft making activities for children and the Manx Farmers’ Market accompanied by traditional Manx Music. For this day only, the event is also rumoured to feature a very special guest who will be taking up residence in his Grotto in The House of Manannan. Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to try their hand at making Christmas tree decorations, Christmas cards and Christmas Lanterns. Visitors will also be able to purchase locally made and handcrafted items for that special Christmas present from a variety of craft stalls scattered throughout the building, including jewellery, glassware, art and textiles. In addition, the popular Farmers Market will have a variety of fresh seasonal Manx produce on sale and available to order in preparation for the festive season. From 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, Jack Kaighin, a member of the Friends of Manx National Heritage will present a ‘Magic Lantern Show’ displaying images of the Isle of Man in years gone by, including rural scenes and slides of how Christmas was celebrated here in the past. Despite a tight schedule and secrecy regarding his movements, there have been rumours in the ‘Reindeer Times’ that, between 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, Father Christmas will be visiting The House of Manannan with a sack of presents for children attending the event. Margaret Jones of the House of Manannan said; “This is a great occasion for the whole family to enjoy and to begin their Christmas celebrations at The House of Manannan. Seasonal refreshments will be on sale including a non-alcoholic mulled wine and mince pies served by the Friends of Manx National Heritage and a traditional Hog Roast on the forecourt. There will also be a raffle to win a beautiful handmade Christmas cake. Proceeds will go towards the work of the Friends of Manx National Heritage, a registered charity committed to conserving the cultural heritage and natural environment of the Isle of Man for future generations to enjoy”. The special festive activities are included in the admission charge of just ?2.00 per adult. Entry to the activities is free for accompanied children with a charge of ?2.00 to visit Santa. Admission to the festive Farmers’ Market is free. Join in the festive fun at The House of Manannan on Sunday 28th November 2010 between 10am and 5pm and celebrate Christmas with Manx National Heritage. The House of Manannan are also supporting Age Concern’s ‘Support Our Stocking Appeal’ and over the coming weeks there will be a collection box in the reception area for your gift donations. Ends
