Criminal Justice & Your Freedom

by isleofman.com 26th November 2010
7.30 p.m. Monday 29th November 2010 Manx Legion Club, Market Hill, Douglas P A G has assembled a panel of experts to debate the Bill and how some of its proposals could threaten some of our individual freedoms by broadening Police powers. Chair of P A G Roger Tomlinson comments: “The Consultation process, with over 80 submissions, shows that there was a general public unease about the Bill, and delegating analysis of the numerous clauses within it to a Committee underlines political disquiet too. The decision in Keys was very significant . It was a set back to the authority of the Block Vote and Government. Department of Home Affairs Minister Earnshaw’s insistance that the Bill should be debated clause by clause in its entirity was misguided and foolish. He should have divided it into sections for easier consideration. As a result of the Keys decision there could be a snarl up for the whole remaining legislative programme. We invite the public to come along on Monday to find out more about the possible outcomes on individuals and families if the legislation eventually is approved in its present form. Three MHKs – Gill, Robertshaw and Watterson - who have taken a great interest in the Bill will be joined on the panel by former law lecturer Peter Murcott. Civil Liberties campaigner Tristram Llewellyn Jones will be the 5th panel member. As usual the audience will be invited to participate in the discussion”. Admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend More details on the P A G website: www.positiveactiongroup.org Ends
