Isle of Man Tourism is pleased to reveal the winners of the 2010 Photo Competition.
The competition was open to budding amateur and professional photographers who had the opportunity to enter one or two images in any or all of seven categories covering various aspects of Island life. The categories were Coastal, Countryside, Wildlife, Transport, Isle of Man Events, Manx Heritage and Culture and Island Life.
Seven prizes of ?100 were awarded to the winners and seven prizes of ?50 awarded to each runner up whose images, in the eyes of the judges, best represented the Isle of Man in each of the seven categories.
Prize winners attended a special award ceremony held in the Sanderson Suite at the Claremont Hotel, on Monday 29th November. The overall winner of the competition was Mr Allan Brown who was presented with a framed photograph of his beautiful image of a Loaghtan.
Minister for the Department of Economic Development, Allan Bell MHK, said:
‘The quality and quantity of the entries we received this year is most pleasing. It was fantastic to see so many wonderful photographs of our beautiful Island and these will be put to good use by the Department in the near future to promote the Isle of Man in guides, brochures and advertisements. I would like to extend my congratulations to all the winners.’
Department of Economic Development Member with responsibility for Tourism, Geoff Corkish, MBE, MHK, commented:
‘I would like to add my congratulations to all winners. The standard of competition entries was very high, making choosing the finalists a difficult decision for the judges. I’m sure that everyone will agree that the winning photograph by Allan Brown, capturing a close-up image of a handsome and inquisitive Loaghtan, is a worthy winner. However, all of the finalist’s images were excellent and we look forward to seeing them reproduced in our publicity material.’
Isle of Man Tourism wishes to thank everyone who entered the photo competition. The winning images will be used both online and offline in order to help promote and encourage visitors to the Island. All prize winning entries can be viewed by the public on Isle of Man Tourism’s facebook page www.facebook.com/visitisleofman.
