Pharmaceutical company Medis marked its 10th anniversary on the island by hosting a Manx Ceilidh evening at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club. Guest speaker for the night was Manx-born comedian and writer Rob Heeney who entertained around 90 guests, including Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK, Treasury Minister Anne Craine MHK, and Sir Miles and Lady Walker. Rob Heeney has become a regular on TV and radio in recent years including appearances on the Sky News Press Review and Radio 5 Live’s Fighting Talk. He’s also a talented comedy script writer for many top TV and radio shows and won a Sony Silver Award for his contributions to Jamie Theakston’s Breakfast Show on Heart FM. Stuart Colligon, Medis Managing Director, said the Manx themed evening was chosen as it reflected the company’s heritage and its pride in being based on the Island. He said: “From small beginnings we now trade in multiple international markets, employ 20 people on the Island, and have reported record results in each of the last four years. We consider the main reasons for our success to be hard work, exacting professional standards and our Manx heritage. This is combined with a light-hearted philosophy out of the office - hence our anniversary celebrations being a relaxed evening as opposed to a formal dinner. We hope our guests enjoyed the Ceilidh and thank them for making our anniversary celebrations such a memorable occasion.” After dinner, which consisted almost entirely of Manx produce, guests took to the dance floor with music provided by the Calor Gas Band. Guests also had a chance to learn about the many community initiatives supported by Medis, including the It’s a Knockout Challenge which raised ?55,000 for Isle of Man charities in the last five years. The company also has an undergraduate sponsorship scheme which helps students cover the costs of higher education. So far, this scheme has given grants to five Isle of Man students. Over the last five years Medis has donated more than ?100,000 in sponsorships and donations - all of them in the Isle of Man. Medis is the Island’s largest pharmaceutical company, specialising in the development and manufacture of a wide range of medicines.
