School Catchment Area Order

AN order is to be laid before Tynwald defining which secondary school pupils from the Eastern area will attend At present, 11-year-olds leaving primary schools in the Douglas / Onchan area have the choice of attending either St Ninian’s High School or Ballakermeen High School. However, when analysing predicted pupil numbers the Department of Education and Children identified that this could lead to Year 7 at St Ninian’s Lower School being over-capacity. This would have a knock-on effect on later years, too. Meanwhile, Ballakermeen High School would have spare places. Eddie Teare MHK, Minister for Education and Children, will lay the order before this month’s sitting of Tynwald. Ends
