Douglas Borough Council To Upgrade Public Conveniences on Douglas Promenade

by isleofman.com 7th December 2010
The three sites – at the Jubilee Clock kiosk, Loch Promenade and Strathallan Crescent - will be upgraded with semi-automatic facilities similar to those fitted in Douglas Market Hall in 2009. Three units will be installed at the Jubilee Clock and Strathallan Crescent sites and four units at Loch Promenade; each site will include one disability-compliant unit. The ?200,000 design and fit scheme will be carried out by UK public restroom specialists Healthmatic and feature vandal-resistant easy-to-clean interiors. As with the Market Hall facilities a 20p access fee will be levied and cleaning and maintenance will be provided under contract through Healthmatic. Council Leader David Christian JP said: ‘In tandem with our commitment to the regeneration of Douglas town centre Douglas Borough Council is determined to continue to invest in the other areas of the town and recognises the importance to provide clean, safe and secure public conveniences which, for a modest charge of 20p, ensures the facilities are maintained to consistently high standards.’ Ends
