The Royal Life Saving Society UK – Annual Honours
The National Honours Committee of the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) UK has awarded a Certificate of Thanks to 7 Trainer/Assessors working at the NSC and throughout the Isle of Man. Certificates were awarded to Anthony Corlett, Mark Vanyan, Pieter de Bruin, Teresa Smith, Pauline Glennon, Gary Hunter who all have over five years’ continuous service and have given significant contribution to the work of the society and to the Isle of Man.
Over the past eight years great progress has been made on the Isle of Man to reach a high standard of training, resulting in excellent assessment results for candidates taking the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and associated lifesaving qualifications.
The NSC, along with the Regional Pools on the Island, are now RLSS Approved Training Centres and subsequently work to very strict guidelines for delivering training courses to Lifeguards in disciplines such as Life Support, Lifeguard Theory, First Aid and Rescue skills.
In addition to lifeguard training and assessing, the Trainer Assessors coordinated by Mike Ferguson the National Trainer Assessor, are also involved with lifesaving training and help various organisations across the Island including police recruits, schools and hotel pool supervisors. ‘Rookie’ Lifeguard training for youngsters is now very popular and is offered at the various pools.
Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure said “It is very important as a community surrounded by water that we are able to deliver lifeguard and lifesaving training to a wide selection of our community. I am pleased to present the award certificates to the Trainer Assessors, who are deservedly recognised, well done.”
