With less than a year to go until the Commonwealth Youth Games take place in the Isle of Man, the partner sponsors are under starter’s orders to encourage local people to become volunteers for the event. Barclays Wealth, along with a further 9 partner sponsors, are asking local people to volunteer some of their time in September next year to help run the games.
The Commonwealth Youth Games, taking place from 7-13 September 2011, will be hosted at various sporting venues across the Island staging rugby 7’s, boxing, athletics, cycling, gymnastics, swimming and badminton for over 1,000 competitors from around the Commonwealth.
Greg Ellison Managing Director of Barclays Wealth in the Isle of Man said: ‘As one of the 10 partner sponsors, we are very excited about the games coming to the Isle of Man next year and are putting our weight behind the campaign to recruit the 1,500 volunteers needed to assist with the games in a variety of roles. As the largest private sector employer and a partner sponsor we have an important role to play in supporting the games. Many of our staff have agreed to take the time out of their busy working days to volunteer, both in the run up to the event, and to assist as officials during the event. The games will be a landmark event in the Island’s history and I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved.’
The opening ceremony will be taking place on Thursday 8th September 2011 at the newly refurbished Bowl. Anyone interested in volunteering for the Games should visit www.cyg2011.com or email Volunteer Coordinator, Victoria Karran enquires@cyg2011.com.
