Abacus Tries a Little “Tenderness” for Charity

by isleofman.com 5th January 2011
Staff at Abacus have raised ?1000 for Children in Need, in an assortment of fundraising activities including a Sponsored Wax. Male staff members from the Douglas based Fiduciary and Fund Administration Services Provider, volunteered to undergo the sometimes painful beauty treatment at their head office on Circular Road in Douglas, Isle of Man. Staff sponsored and then watched as the seven individuals, Bryan Moyer, Gary Crossan, Graeme Cole, Gregory Brown, John Corteen, Rob Millar and Stephen Goodspeed gasped and flinched during the waxing process having offered their back, legs or arms to be waxed, in order to raise money for the well known charity. The waxing, joined by other activities including a cake and bake sale, “guess the number of sweets in the jar”, a Children In Need quiz and other small games and donations raised a total of ?1000. Paul Watterson, Operations Director, commented: “Staff at Abacus are keen to support a variety of charities throughout the year. Our Corporate Responsibility Committee organises a number of fundraising activities each year to support local charities and community projects, and staff always show a great deal of interest and support. Children in Need offered staff an element of fun and entertainment whilst raising money for a number of worthwhile charities and projects. The Corporate Responsibility Committee members did a brilliant job in providing a variety of games and activities for staff to raise money for this year’s initiative.” Abacus would like to thank Emma Tracey from The Cosmetic Medical Centre for giving up her time to perform the waxing at Abacus’ offices. - ENDS -
