The last Friday in January is RNLI SOS day, the charity’s biggest annual fundraising day. This year it falls on Friday 28th January and Ramsey’s volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew have finalised their SOS day plans. Following the success of the last two years, the crew will once again be inviting the public to join in and Sample Our Snacks at their SOS day winter barbie at Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat Station on Queen’s Promenade, Ramsey. In addition, and also at the boathouse, the lifeboat crew are holding a Sponsor Our Suds car wash.
As ever Ramsey’s Salty Old Seadogs will be ignoring the weather, pushing the boat out, firing up the barbeque and opening the doors of the boathouse between ten o’clock and three o’clock on Friday 28th January. The public are invited to come along to the boathouse and support the RNLI and SOS day by purchasing a barbeque bap and having their cars washed by an enthusiastic lifeboat crew.
Kev Christian, volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager for Ramsey, says “On Friday 28th January why not drop in on Ramsey lifeboat house, relax while your car is being washed and enjoy a skeet and a brew with the crew whilst partaking of a barbeque bap, maybe even two!”
As in previous years, Ramsey will be the first port of call for the intrepid Radio 3 FM Deeply Dippy SOS day dippers, who on SOS day will arrive by bus at Ramsey lifeboat station at around10:30am to take their dip in the chilly waters of Ramsey Bay at 10:45am. Members of Ramsey’s volunteer lifeboat crew lifeboat crew will be on hand offering warm words of encouragement to the dippers at the first stage their annual SOS day sponsored challenge to swim in the sea at all five of the Island’s lifeboat stations. The Deeply Dippy SOS day dippers will depart Ramsey lifeboat station and head to Peel lifeboat station at 11:15am.
