IOM Squash - Merseyside Junior County Champioships

by isleofman.com 27th January 2011
A total 14 junior players represented the Isle of Man in the recent Merseyside County Junior Championships. Every single one of them won at least one match so they obviously all deserved to be there. Stars of the Island squad were Hannah Dixon, who returned to the Island as Under 15 Girls Champion; Sidney Batty, runner-up in the Under 11 Boys group, Thom Whiteway, third in the Under 17 Boys section and Mason McLarney winner of the Tournament Sportsmanship award. Other notable performances were Edward Batty (Boys U13) and Liam Quinn (Boys U17) who, by finishing 5th and 9th respectively in their competitions, were the effective Plate winners i.e. after an early loss winning all the rest of their games. Hannah also competed in the "Boys" U13 and finished a creditable 6th. Sidney, Edward and Liam all have another year in the same boys Age Group. Hannah has another 2 years in hers. Also, Patrick Fitzpatrick and Hadyn McLarney, who finished 6th & 7th in the Boys U15, have another year in that Group. Mason won his Sportsmanship award by bravely returning to the competition after spending 3 hours in Alder Hey casualty with a facial injury courtesy of dangerous play by his opponent. IOMSRA would like to thank the following for their support: -Trident Trust for their long-term support for Manx Junior Squash. -MSR for their Travel and Coaching Grants -FlyBe for reducing the price of their Group air fares. Without the support of the above we wouldn't have been able to take so many players and coaches. Ends
