The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure’s Sport Development Unit and Department of Health Public Health Directorate have worked together to ensure all over 50’s on the Island are aware of all the different and varied health related activities on offer. Both Departments have worked closely with key agencies and deliverers to produce a pocket sized information booklet. The key to any sustainable exercise programme is finding an activity that is enjoyable and fun. Through the booklet and the range of activities listed, finding a sport or exercise has been made very accessible. Activities detailed in the booklet include, aqua fit, chair based exercise programme, fitness training, gentle circuits, ladies activity mornings, Walk and Talk, yoga, pilates and golf. Contributors include, Age Concern, Body & Mind Fitness Centre, Department of Environment Food & Agriculture, Mount Murray, Palace Health Club, NSC and Public health. The booklet also makes reference to veteran sport, and exercise programmes offered through the Isle of Man College and local Commissioners. Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure said “We are committed to working with our colleagues in health to ensure all the community has access to appropriate sport and leisure activities, through this booklet, finding the right activity has been made allot easier ” Hon David Anderson MHK, Minister for Health said “Through our work with our colleagues in the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure we hope that making this information widely available will make it easier for people over 50 years to choose a physical activity that suits them or appeals to them.
