Two 3FM radio presenters have become rising stars thanks to support from Douglas Borough Council.
Kelly Foran and Jason Quinn spent a day with members of the Council’s electrical services section as part of the radio station’s Morning Crew workplace challenge where the presenters are assigned different workplaces each week to learn about the organisation’s day-to-day operation and be judged by their temporary ‘employer’.
Working several metres above street level on a mobile elevation works platform the pair installed pre-assembled lanterns and bracket arms to two lampposts in Ballabrooie Drive under the supervision of electrical services manager Donal Cullen and his team.
Mr Cullen said: After the tasks were completed we discussed the performance of both Kelly and Jason and decided to award the victory to Jason. The margin was very close, though, with Kelly scoring 49.8 and Jason 50. All in all, I believe it was a very successful exercise.’
Public works committee chairman councillor David Ashford said: ‘Electrical services is a diverse operation responsible for more than 4000 public lighting units across the Borough. The Council was therefore pleased to have supported 3FM’s workplace challenge as it not only provided an opportunity to give the general public an insight into the complexity of the services provided by the Council but also demonstrated the skill and professionalism of our operatives.’
