Newsletter Highlights Ramsey Regeneration Plans

by isleofman.com 1st February 2011
The Ramsey Regeneration Committee has produced a newsletter to highlight progress being achieved towards improving the commercial heart of the town. The update informs residents about the various phases of the project which was recently endorsed by the Chief Minister’s Regeneration Steering Group. It includes an overview of the proposals, a map detailing the intended regeneration zones and contact details for members of the Ramsey Committee. Copies of ‘Improving Ramsey – Regeneration Update’ are available on the Government website and via the Town Hall and Ramsey Chamber of Trade. The Ramsey project was the first major regeneration programme in the Island to be given the go-ahead for further planning and development. It is an important part of the overall Government regeneration scheme which aims to revitalise town and village centres and support local economies across the whole of the Isle of Man. The initial phase of activity in Ramsey will focus on improving ‘The Lanes’ leading from Parliament Street to the Quay. Other work will address traffic flow issues and the desire to create a vibrant centre for community use in the area around Market Place and St Paul’s Church. Information is also available for owners and lease holders of commercial and retail properties about potential financial assistance to improve the external appearance of their buildings. Ramsey Regeneration Committee Chairman Allan Bell MHK said: ‘This newsletter provides a timely update on plans to regenerate our town centre over the coming years. We want to engage with local people, interest groups and business partners as community input is vital to the future success of this exciting project. I would encourage residents to pick up a copy of the newsletter and play their part in helping to make Ramsey more attractive, vibrant and colourful.’ Ends
