Manx Telecom has been awarded a Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) certificate for a third consecutive three year period. The ISO 14001 award involves rigorous internal and external auditing and constant evolution of environmental policies. In achieving the certification Manx Telecom had to prove how it had introduced ways of reducing consumption of energy and materials in its operations, and how it had increased levels of recycling.
Manx Telecom first received ISO 14001 accreditation in 2004. It is given for three years at a time, so the latest accreditation will last until 2013. David Comish, Manx Telecom’s Estates and Power Manager, has overall responsibility for environmental issues for the company. He said:
“We are extremely pleased to have obtained accreditation for ISO 14001, the international environmental standard, for a third consecutive three year period. It not only demonstrates Manx Telecom's continued commitment to sound environmental management but also our willingness to have this scrutinised through an independent certification body. It is another differentiator between Manx Telecom and other companies working in the telecommunications industry in the Isle of Man. Our customers expect us to uphold the highest environmental principles and this achievement is doing just that.”
As part of company policy Manx Telecom is constantly considering environmental issues in relation to the lifecycle of its network products, equipment and services and works in partnership with suppliers to minimise environmental impact.
When creating new or maintaining its existing buildings, structures and equipment Manx Telecom seeks to minimise the visual, noise and other impacts on the local environment.
It is company policy to promote individual awareness of good environmental practices with employees.
