Young people in the north of the Island are invited to an open evening that marks the start of a new combined Badger and Cadet Division of St John Ambulance.
The Ramsey division will meet on Friday evenings at the Air Cadet Force unit at Auldyn School in Gladstone Road.
An open evening on Friday 18th February from 6pm to 8pm will allow young people and their parents to meet leaders and other St John Ambulance volunteers and try their hand at basic first aid skills – the cornerstone of Badgers’ and Cadets’ activities.
Badgers are the youngest members of St John Ambulance, aged five to 10, and have fun while learning life-saving skills. They work towards their Super Badger Award. See http://www.sja.org.uk/sja/young-people/badgers.aspx
Cadets are aged 10 to 17 and the emphasis for them is on fun, adventure and community. See http://www.sja.org.uk/sja/young-people/cadets.aspx
Many young Badgers and Cadets go on to be full adult members of the Island’s leading first aid charity and provide vital cover at events ranging from the TT and MGP to Tynwald Day, agricultural shows and community events.
The Ramsey Division is the sixth for young people, with others meeting at Douglas, Onchan, Laxey, Peel and Rushen.
Bill Castelow, Assistant Principal Youth Officer with St John Ambulance, said: ‘If you're between five and 10 years old, you can join Badgers, learn first aid and have fun! And when you reach 10 you can move on to become a Cadet. You’ll get the best first aid training and a wide choice of other activities. You'll never be stuck for something to do.’
