by isleofman.com 7th February 2011
This week were the Isle of Man Indoor target championships hosted by Isle of Man Archery Club for both senior and junior categories with the seniors run in the morning and juniors getting the afternoon slot. First up in the senior Championship were the gents recurve this saw Tony Hartley dominate from an injury hit Dave Berry and Colin Moore, Hartley dropped his bow arm on his last arrow to miss out on a PB by one point Berry was in a lot of pain with his injury still awaiting his Arthroscopy operation and managed to get the runner-up spot with Moore getting the last step on the podium. Ladies recurve saw Charlotte George forget her keys to her bow case, a quick trip home by her father Allan to get them and a slight delay to the start time helped her clinch her fifth indoor title to go with her five outdoor titles. George started with only dropping one point in her first six arrows with this start she pushed home her advantage and break the Manx record, Harris and Rutland were battling it out for the runner-up spot Harris wasn’t shooting comfortably and Rutland was chasing her sight block for the first part of the shoot Harris just edged Rutland for the runners-up spot and Kate Dawe shooting in her first major championship and only her second ever shoot puts in a very impressive personal best. Gents compound saw Peter Mumford and Allan George go head to head with scores being matched at the half way break Mumford puts in a six 10 gold end at the end to go two points ahead of George to take the gents compound title. Ladies compound title went down to the wire with Aalin George, Sarah Rigby AND Joy Gough battling it out for top honours George pulled out a four point advantage by the half way over Rigby and with Gough a further four point back, Rigby pushed home to finish level on point with George but to lose out on gold 10’s count back George piped the title with two more 10’s over Rigby and Gough picking up the last step on the podium.
