Staff from the Palace Hotel & Casino have handed over ?2,600 to the British Heart Foundation, their chosen charity for 2010.
The money was raised at several events throughout the year, with the main event being a themed ball at the Palace Hotel in September.
Other fundraising events included two car boot sales at Moreton Hall in Castletown, staff competing in the Parish Walk and a day in the Strand Shopping Centre, where the public enjoyed some light-hearted relief by watching staff from the Palace Health Club being put through their paces on rowing machines. Collection boxes were also placed around Palace Hotel & Casino throughout the year.
Palace Hotel & Casino Managing Director Adrian Brockhouse said: ‘I want to thank all our staff and customers who got involved in the charity events during the year. They showed tremendous enthusiasm to raise a substantial amount for such a worthwhile cause.
‘While the British Heart Foundation is a UK-registered charity, we were given an assurance that any money we raised would be kept on-Island and thus benefit local people.’
The BHF was founded in 1961 and provides advice and support for those suffering from heart conditions, and their families. It aims to reduce heart disease through pioneering research, prevention activity and ensuring quality care and support.
Barbara Dunn of the British Heart Foundation visited the Island to accept the cheque from staff.
She said: ‘The team at the Palace have done a fantastic fundraising job and on behalf of the Foundation I’d like to sincerely thank them – and everyone on the Island who donated – for all their efforts. An organisation like ours cannot operate without the kind of support shown by the people of the Isle of Man and it was a pleasure to visit and meet everyone involved.’
