Manx Telecom is helping a Douglas youth group keep in touch with music fans thanks to its Online SMS service. The Online Short Message Service (SMS) is proving popular with community groups as well as businesses because it saves a lot of time and effort in communicating with large groups. The service allows messages to be sent out to individually targeted customers, suppliers and employees via their mobile handsets and mobile devices direct from a PC.
The Upper Room is a live music venue on Broadway and was set up by Broadway Baptist Church. It provides a much needed venue for young people aged 11 to 18 to perform their own music - bands use The Upper Room to rehearse and to perform concerts. Manx Telecom is sponsoring the Online SMS service for a year to help organisers keep in touch with everyone who uses the venue.
Dave Woodgett, a project worker at The Upper Room, said:
“We are very grateful to Manx Telecom for providing this service. It is helping us to keep in touch with volunteers who organise events at The Upper Room and also all of the bands we work with.”
He said the Online SMS service was an ideal way to communicate with everyone involved with The Upper Room and to update them about concerts, rehearsals and music tuition classes.
Voirrey Barron, Manx Telecom Marketing Communications Manager, said the company was pleased to support project. She said:
“The Online SMS service is easy to use and is a great way for community groups to keep in touch.”
