The Shed, the popular Ramsey Young People’s Project drop in centre, has been given a repainting and refurbishment courtesy of Heritage Homes.
“The involvement by Heritage Homes has been a real boost and has enabled a complete repaint of both the outside and inside,” said Cath Christian, Ramsey Young People’s Project spokesperson.
“This total facelift has made the centre more pleasant to come to and be part of. The colours have been matched to those of the Manx Electric Railway to make it part of the larger Station area and improve the general appearance for visitors into Ramsey on the electric trams.”
Heritage Homes spokesman Joe McLoughlin said: “We are delighted to have been of assistance to what is a very successful drop-in youth centre. The dedication of the project committee is admirable and deserves to be fully supported.”
A large number of tub chairs have been provided by Ramsey Golf Club replacing much of the original seating.
Project chairman Juan Clague said: “The Shed provides much needed youth activity for the teenagers of the North and gives them the opportunity to meet friends and chat or make use of a range of entertainment equipment if they wish. It also provides advice and help in a non judgemental way by Cath Christian and her trained team.”
The centre has been running since 1993 when it was originally known as Beryl's Bus in a converted Manx bus. However, for close on a decade it has been in the old tram shed at the Manx Electric Railway Station in Ramsey. A charity, it is funded both by donations and through participation in local events and funds from the centre tuck shop.
“There has been nothing really similar in the Island with the centre’s innovative approach and relaxed environment,” said Mr Clague.
The centre is open on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
